Sweeney Todd
demon barber of fleet street
As the scenic designer for Sweeney Todd, my vision draws from a dark, storybook aesthetic—an exaggerated fantasy world that exists somewhere between dream and nightmare. The design embraces theatricality and abstraction, evoking the sensation of stepping into a twisted fairytale rather than a realistic 19th-century London. Using deep, saturated blues as the dominant color palette, the scenery is steeped in a moody haze, immersing the audience in an atmosphere of mystery, melancholy, and menace.
Through warped silhouettes, layered textures, and painterly forms, the scenic environment reflects the distorted morality of the characters and the blurred lines between justice and revenge. This visual world supports the heightened emotion and gothic tone of the story, while inviting the audience to lose themselves in a surreal, visually poetic narrative space.
